"Having a relationship with God is essential in our Christian walk. Without a relationship with God, our walk becomes meaningless. Our relationship with God should be above anything else we do. No matter how many things we might have going on in our life, God always needs to be number one. Without Him, we can do nothing, as the Bible says in John chapter 15.
We need to always abide in Him by having constant fellowship with Him through prayer and Bible reading. We need to seek after God not just for religion but for a deep and intimate relationship with Him. God is a personal being, and when we realize this, it will really help us have a more meaningful relationship with Him.
We should not just seek God for what He can give us but seek after Him for who He is. Yes, of course, God can bless us in many ways, but ultimately the most important thing is that deep and intimate relationship with Christ. It is the only thing that will truly fill us and satisfy our soul. Yes, we can find joy and satisfaction in doing good works for the Lord, but we need to make sure we always find the most satisfaction in our relationship with Jesus Himself.
We need to daily check our hearts to make sure they are right with the Lord and that they are only for Him. We should never desire anything else outside of Him. When we still have the love of the world in our hearts, the Bible says in 1st John 2:15-17 that the love of the Father cannot be in us. We need to be willing to let go of everything of the world in order to love and serve the Lord with all of our hearts. When we are able to fully submit to God and let go of our own desires and fully desire Him, then we will notice more of the presence of God in our life. But when we are still holding on to those worldly desires, it will hinder us from going deep into God's presence. So, we need to make that commitment to God to be fully willing to sacrifice everything for Him, as it talks about in Romans 12:1, for His Glory to come down in our life.
